I am so excited to begin this new journey under the Elm Tree! This season is one of change for me as I step out of my comfort zone and into new areas and directions that God is calling me to. Anyone else get a little anxiety mixed with a twinge of fear when stepping into the unknown? Me too! There is something comforting about knowing what to expect, even if the known is painful, hard, or not God’s best for us. Control is a hard thing to let go of, but I have found over the years that this climate is the perfect breeding ground for growth, maturity, and for God to do new things through us if we will let Him. For after all, God promises to do the impossible with our surrender.
Story behind the name
When I was a little girl, I would go to my grandparents house often to visit. At nighttime, my grandmother would tuck me into bed and lay down with me for a little while. Before we fell asleep, she would place a pillow over our heads and we would play ‘under the toad stool’. When we were under the toad stool, anyone and anything could come and join us. I always learned so much from the people and things we would encounter in our make-believe world. I gleaned a lot of wisdom from my grandmother, who grew up on a farm in East Texas during the Great depression. Our greatest struggles become our greatest teachers, and I am thankful that she shared her lessons with me. I hope you will join me under the Elm Tree (ELM is my initials, thus the name) as I write about several different topics that come my way. I pray this blog is a place of encouragement, truth, reality, and most importantly love.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
